Biography
A graduate of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach (Master's of Music), Lauren Redburn is a teacher and freelance musician in the Seattle area. She is currently the principal flutist of the Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra, a member of Tutti Flutti, the Amazon Woodwind Quintet, the Puget Sounds Symphony Orchestra Woodwind Quintet, and is a founding member of the Helios Symphony Orchestra. She is a former member of the Amazon Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Flute Society Flute Choir.
She received her B.A. in music from Montana State University in 2012, and her M.M. from BCCM in 2014. During her time at both schools she was active in many ensembles such as the flute choirs, bands and orchestras. Lauren was principal flute in the MSU Symphony for two years and alternating principal and second flute at BCCM. Her flute teachers include Renee Westlake, Karen Leech, Sue Makeever, Rena Urso, and John Barcellona. She has been lucky to take part in masterclasses with Ben Smolen, Amy Eyles, Immanuel Davis, Mary Fukushima, Rhonda Larson, and Leone Buyse. Lauren was also awarded a scholarship in order to attend the Summer Arts Festival at CSU Monterey Bay, where she studied with Carol Wincenc.
Lauren was also fortunate to take part in the Good Will and Friendship Tour in 2009 with MSU. The MSU Symphony toured South East Asia and was the first collegiate orchestra to visit Vietnam in over 70 years. In 2011, Lauren was fortunate to share the stage with the Ahn Trio in the MSU Symphony while also performing as a soloist backed by the baroque orchestra that evening.
A versatile flutist, Lauren enjoys playing many styles of flute including Baroque, Classical, and Romantic, as well as Contemporary Classical Music. During her graduate studies, Lauren learned the Native American Flute in preparation for her Masters recital which took listeners on a tour of the world through flute music.
Lauren can be heard on the Brighter Days album by Manifide, an orchestral rock band based in Seattle. “The 'Brighter Days Project' is our movement to raise awareness of depression and mental illness, and to help abandon the stigma society has for it by educating the public that even a person with depression or mental illness can be a positive influence on the world." ~Manifide
Most recently, Lauren was featured on the Rodeo City Blues album for The Mighty Dreadful Stringband, a Seattle-based bluegrass band.
